Eva Illouz examines the current conflicts surrounding freedom of speech and moral sensitivity. To this end, she examines two competing models of free speech: one that defends free speech as a central democratic principle, and one that emphasizes protection against harm and exclusion. She asks how liberal societies deal with these tensions and what this means for public debates and our coexistence.<\/p>\n

Prof. Dr. Eva Illouz<\/strong> researches and teaches at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem on emotions, capitalism, culture, communication, and the cultural aspects of their intersections. In 2018, she was awarded the EMET Prize in Sociology.<\/p>\n
