Press Officer (m/f/d)
The German-American Institute (DAI) in Heidelberg is a renowned nonprofit cultural center dedicated to promoting democracy and providing information on social, political, and cultural events on both sides of the Atlantic. In addition to a comprehensive program—consisting of lectures, event series, seminars, discussions, readings in both German and English, concerts, films, and exhibitions—the DAI offers a wide range of educational opportunities, including a public English-language library and a language school.
We are seeking to strengthen our cross-departmental communications team as soon as possible:
Your Responsibilities
- Preparing topics for print and online media in a manner tailored to the target audience
- Drafting texts in a wide variety of formats, e.g., press releases, program descriptions, invitations, editorial content, annual reports, informational materials, etc.
- Coordination of press activities as well as strategic planning, organization, and implementation of target-group-specific communication measures in consultation with department management
- Active and ongoing expansion and maintenance of the press distribution list
- Collaboration on the cross-departmental event program, planning and execution of events both in-house and off-site
- Providing editorial and content support for the website and social media channels
- Compiling press clippings and performing general press-related and administrative tasks
- Friendly communication with partners and external service providers
- Supervision of interns
Your Profile
- At least 2 years of professional experience in the field of press, corporate communications, or similar, ideally in the cultural sector
- A completed degree in a communication-related field (German Studies, Journalism, Communication and Media Studies, or similar)
- Excellent writing skills and strong verbal and written communication abilities
- Confident, fast, and accurate writing, editing, and proofreading of a wide variety of text types and media
- Good knowledge of regional and national media in the cultural sector
- High degree of independence, resilience, and flexibility
- Highly organized, self-reliant, and precise work style
- Distinctive, authentic affinity for culture and high level of loyalty
- Excellent communication skills and strong ability to work in a team
- Willingness to work irregular hours (including some evenings and weekends)
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Proficiency with MS Office
- Basic knowledge of working with CMS systems
