We believe that every child matters and through their innate curiosity and scaffolded deeper learning; we can help to ensure that all of our students reach their full potential. We believe every journey should be guided by curiosity – at times the journey is more important than the destination. In our school we value the method of inquiry with equal importance. We believe in preparing our students for the real world; to recognise and understand its complexities and interconnectedness. We are all lifelong learners; our school is a safe environment for students to develop and try out new ideas – learning from each other’s successes and setbacks. We believe that we should celebrate our individual potential and work together to create a flourishing community. Our Values Our school is committed to the values of RESPECT, KINDNESS and TOLERANCE. The aim is to treat ethics as a main subject, i.e. not to limit it to the weekly lesson or double lesson, but to let it intersperse all areas of school life. A student parliament, the class council, the subject “Freedom & Responsibility” and later on the subject “Future” are part of this understanding, as well as the examination of central philosophical ideas, which are discussed with the students in an age-appropriate manner. Making our values the concrete basis of our dealings with each other and weaving them into our everyday school life is the big goal. Our Concept Bilingual; International & Project-oriented The International DAI School is a BILINGUAL SCHOOL; classes are held in German and English. Previous knowledge of the other language is not necessary. The goal is for the children to be able to express themselves well and confidently in both languages by the end of primary school. The lessons follow the Baden-Württemberg curriculum while incorporating the Cambridge Curriculum. Children and teachers of DIFFERENT NATIONS learn together in SMALL CLASSES: around 20 children per group and a German-English team of teachers teach in pairs during the core periods of the morning. As in the DAI kindergartens, the focus is on fostering children’s curiosity and JOY IN LEARNING. In cooperation with the Institute of Educational Science at the University of Heidelberg, teaching and learning methods are at the center of lessons that have proven to be particularly beneficial in a worldwide comparison. These include, in addition to large amounts of movement, above all PROJECT-BASED LEARNING and the DEEPER LEARNING method. BEGEISTERSCHULE The DAI’s main objective is to ensure that children enjoy learning and developing their talents – after all, the school will be based in the BEGEISTERHAUS. On the site of the Heidelberg Innovation Park (hip), formerly known as Patton Barracks, the Begeisterhaus will be a creative center for the entire city that is unique in Germany. We will offer a wide range of activities for children and young people; from the Makerspace to the Art Space, the Language and Poetry Lab to the Astronomy Tower, it offers the students of the International DAI School Heidelberg privileged access to outstanding and inspiring learning opportunities.
