International School of the DAI Circle of Friends DAI@School The Circle of Friends of the DAI Heidelberg e. V. will open an international school in September 2021, which will be located in the future BEGEISTERHAUS. An application has been made for a community school (initially grades 1–10 with an option for an upper school), which will offer all-day classes. This is intended to build on the work of the DAI’s international kindergartens. The basics Teaching will be bilingual (German and English) and will incorporate both the curriculum of the state of Baden-Württemberg and the Cambridge Curriculum. Children and teachers from many different nations will learn together in small classes. As in the kindergartens, the focus is on fostering children’s curiosity and joy of learning. The teachers will work continuously and intensively with the children to shape the learning paths together and to create optimal conditions for sustainable and effective learning. Cooperation with the University of Heidelberg and Emory University In cooperation with the Educational Science Institute of Heidelberg University, teaching and learning methods, which have been proven as particularly beneficial in a global comparison, will be at the center of the lessons. These include project-based learning and the method of Deeper Learning. In addition to the school’s academic standards, the SEE Learning Program developed at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, will give “Social, Emotional and Ethical Learning” its own space. The main concern of the DAI is that the children learn a lot and enjoy developing their talents – after all, the school will be located in the BEGEISTERHAUS. The BEGEISTERHAUS Located in the Heidelberg Innovation Park (hip), formerly Patton Barracks, the BEGEISTERHAUS is being built as a creative center for the whole city. The BEGEISTERHAUS is unique in Germany and offers a wide range of activities for children and young people: From the Makerspace to the Art Space, the Language and Poetry Lab up to the Astronomy Tower, it offers the children of the International School of the DAI Heidelberg privileged access to outstanding and inspiring learning opportunities.
