DAI started in 1946 as a small library, known as the “Amerika Haus”. In its early days it attracted famous speakers, such as T.S. Eliot, Thornton Wilder and many others. Today it is the only public English-language library in the Rhein-Neckar region, and a place where the international community can come together to meet, share, discuss, laugh and enjoy!
In the DAI Library you can find books from classics and latest best-sellers, to children’s books and juvenile literature. We also have newspapers and magazines, E-journals, video cassettes, audio cassettes, CDs, DVDs, slides and many other resources. You can search our online catalogue for specific titles.
The DAI Library is also a place to come with questions about travel to the USA. Whether you would like to spend a year in an American high school, do an internship, or study at an American university, the library is your source of information. We are an EducationUSA advising center, supported by the US State Department and we can also help you with questions regarding visas, scholarships and internship or college applications.
There are many social events held in the DAI Library like English discussion groups, the book club, Story Time for Kids, the International Women’s Club and Wednesday Cafés. In addition to our services for English teachers and schools we regularly organize events for children and young people. You can find the dates of the entire library program in our event calendar.
Since its opening, the library has grown as a center of information, discussion, study and community building for the city of Heidelberg. We hope you will come join our community!
