Answers: Our Concepts 1. What languages are spoken at the school? The DAI International School is a bilingual school, which means that English and German are the two official languages of instruction. We follow the approach of integrating German and English at a 50:50 ratio in the daily school routine. In addition, our Early and Late Care programs are also an opportunity for children to strengthen their language skills where needed by way of focused communication with their caregivers. 2. How can my child learn German or English if he/she does not speak the respective language? The school concept follows the immersion principle. With the guidance of our multilingual, multicultural staff and our comprehensive curriculum, the children will consistently engage with both languages through native speaking teachers, diverse texts and multi-media content. There is no better time to allow a child to build a second language than in their early educational experience. 3. How many children are in a class? Each class enrolls approximately 20 students. Our class structure also includes a blended system in our extracurricular; classes with a blend of Grade 1 and Grade 2, and classes with a blend of Grade 3 and Grade 4. All classes are lead by both German and English native speakers. 4. What is the supervision ratio of the teachers? During the core educational hours, each individual class of approximately 20 children is supervised and taught by two educators, creating, on average, a 1:10 ratio. Our uniquely balanced ratio allows for teachers to provide their students with individual attention and support as necessary, and for close social bonds amongst the children to flourish. 5. Is there homework? In short, no, in our school, there is no homework. During the core educational hours, the children are offered ample time to practice and review. No work will ever be labeled explicitly as work to be done at home. 6. How can the children develop their creative talents? As part of the Baden-Württemberg educational plan, the children continue to develop their skills in music, art and crafts in our core educational hours. These are each integrated into one of the trimester projects in “Deeper Learning” and additionally offered in the afternoon as a talent subject. 7. How do I follow my child’s development? The opportunity for learning and development discussions take place twice a term in a personal exchange between teacher, child and parents in a protected and familiar atmosphere. Every child receives an end of year report.
