In 2015, Navid Kermani was awarded the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade. His receipt of this prize is confirmation of his tolerance and his sensitivity for alternative world views and religions, his respect for the individual. In this dialogue between Kermani and Osten, we will explore the wide range of ways in which religion might be understood.

Dr Navid Kermani, born in 1967 in Siegen, is a German-Iranian author, publicist and orientalist. In his writing, Kermani typically thematises the marginalisation of groups with different national and religious origins. He studies the Koran and Islamic music. He has been awarded numerous prizes.

Dr Manfred Osten worked for over 30 years as a diplomat. From 1995 until 2003 he was the General Secretary of the Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung. His has published numerous works in the field of cultural studies.
