In this new series, topics that are currently of particular concern to our society will be examined in a relaxed atmosphere. Based on a current text, we will discuss these issues and look to philosophy for inspiration and perhaps even answers.
Can culture save us from barbarism? Probably not, if you go by Hannah Arendt, who repeatedly described how a large number of intellectuals were prepared to fall in line after Hitler seized power. But if culture can do so little, what can protect us from brutalization and how can we develop more humanity as a species?
Dr. Max von Sponeck is a lecturer in the Philosophy Department at the University of Heidelberg and at the PH and a lecturer in ethics at the SRH in Heidelberg. He specializes in the contemporary philosophy of mind.
