Star Walk No. 3: On the limits of the cosmos and our capacity for knowledge

  • Carsten Dolbert
  • An evening hike with lecture elements
  • Social Activity

On this Star Walk, we make the immeasurable imaginable. On the way through intergalactic expanses, we travel from the smallest to the truly gigantic structures of the universe. And once we reach the afterglow of the Big Bang, we ask ourselves whether what lies beyond is (un)finite?

Even if we do not find a clear answer to this question, at the end of our hike through the evening forest we will realize why we would not be able to understand our universe and its dynamics without the existence of mysterious dark matter and dark energy. And why, even in the distant future, we will not be able to find out exactly where in the universe our dear Earth is located. But also why we humans could basically care less.

Carsten Dolbert is a geoscientist by training. He works as a project coordinator, has trained as a systemic consultant and therapist and has been a volunteer in international disaster relief for many years.
