- Independence in 1776?
- Music for the American holiday
- Concert
The “Declaration” of 1776 was a new chapter in the history of democracy – a European-American success story even from today’s perspective, a transatlantic “good union”. This music program does not celebrate unquestioningly, but seeks the vanishing point of American aspirations for freedom in the European Enlightenment, such as the reform theology of the 18th century. Two equally old masters of modernism, the American pioneer Charles Ives and Arnold Schönberg, who was expelled to the USA, represent the opposite pole – here as an arranger of an American folk song. The world premieres in the program, “New York Studie” (Uwe Johnson) by Stefan Litwin and “The Unfinished Dream” by the American Joanne Metcalf, reflect the impact of enlightenment from the shadows of the present. Music celebrates truth beyond “Truth Social”.
