Saša Stanišić
- My misfortune begins with the fact that the circuit is depicted as a rectangle
- Literature
In his new book, Saša Stanišić collects speeches against doing nothing (some delivered, some indignant) in which he addresses the challenges of our time: war, poverty, fascism and, above all, social indifference.
Linguistically and intellectually, the winner of the German Book Prize explores what we can do to counteract these very hardships: Take responsibility, help, act with dignity and become active. With humor and surprising images, he encourages us to think about everyday life, identity, coincidence and commitment, while also understanding language itself as an experience.
Saša Stanišić was born in Yugoslavia in 1978, came to Heidelberg with his family in 1992 and now lives in Hamburg-Altona. His stories and novels have been translated into over 30 languages and have received numerous awards. Among others, he received the Leipzig Book Fair Prize for Vor dem Fest (2014) and the German Book Prize for Origin (2019).
