This expressionist silent film classic tells the dark story of the young estate agent Thomas Hutter, who travels to the Carpathian Mountains to sell a house in Wisborg to the mysterious Count Orlok. In Orlok’s castle, Hutter discovers with growing horror that his host is a vampire. Orlok travels to Wisborg with coffins full of earth – and with him comes death. A mysterious plague spreads until Hutter’s wife Ellen sacrifices her life to defeat the vampire. Murnau’s film is considered a milestone of German Expressionism – a visual symphony of light, shadow and fear.
Musical accompaniment: Chromatone Collective – David Jara (violin, guitar & percussion), Wolfgang Kirchheim (guitar), Martin Pohl (piano & synthesizer), Marco Tecza (drums & percussion)
