Count Orlok (Max Schreck) wishes to give up his home in the Carpathian mountains and move to an old, abandoned house in the small town of Wisborg. His assistant Knock (Alexander Granach), who works as an estate agent in the town, helps him to organise the move. One of Knock’s colleugues, Thomas Hutter (Gustav von Wagenheim), is given the task of tracking down Orlok to get the necessary contracts signed. Hutter’s wife Ellen (Greta Schröder) is rather anxious to discover that her husband is to make a trip to the land of ghosts and vampires. She is unable however, to persuade him to change his plans.

On the way to the castle, Hutter hears that the inhabitants of the area live in terrible fear; they claim that vampires and werewolves inhabit the area surrounding Orlok’s home. In the castle, Hutter finds the creepy Count Orlok. During the second night of his stay, he realises that Orlok is in fact the vampire Nosferatu. The contract, hover, has already been signed and Nosferatu sets off for Wisborg.
