Joseph Haydn is credited with elevating the string quartet to the central genre of Western chamber music. His last complete cycle of works, the six quartets op. 76 from 1797, once again summarizes the essential aspects of the classical quartet style and at the same time points out new paths.
The famous C major quartet with the Emperor’s Anthem will be the focus of Musical Sunday. But the other quartets also feature the typical ingredients of Haydn’s music: Humor, profundity, intellectuality and plenty of surprises.

Timo Jouko Herrmann and Marcus Imbsweiler are two enthusiasts who have their very own linguistic approach to music.
Imbsweiler has previously published novels and stories about composers from Haydn to Shostakovich.
Herrmann is guest conductor of the Heidelberg Symphony Orchestra; his rediscovery of the song of joyPer la ricuperata salute di Ofelia, composed by Salieri, Mozart and Cornetti, made him famous worldwide.
