Supermolecular Chemistry is an area of research which considers the self-organisation of matter. Research focuses on submolecular connections and the new characteristics which arise as result. Two or more chemical species develop into a supermolecule as a result of intermolecular interactions. When it comes to the study of complex systems, themselves already a question of chaos and order, it is self-organisation and self-recognition in molecular systems which attracts particular interest. Jean-Marie Lehn is a pioneer in this field of research known as “Supramolecular Chemistry.”

Prof. Jean-Marie Lehn, winner of the Nobel Prize in 1987, completed his doctorate at the University of Strasbourg and has carried out research at Harvard. In 1970 he became Professor of Chemistry at the University of Strasbourg. He is also a member of the Institute for Nanotechnology in Karlsruhe and lectures at ETH Zurich, at Harvard, at Cambridge Univerisity and at the University of Barcelona.
