Manja
- Iris Berben
- Reading of the novel by Anna Gmeyner
Manja is the story of five children who are conceived on the same night in 1920, but grow up in very different milieus. They are actually worlds apart, and yet they have become friends, united by an intimate affection for Manja – the girl from a poor East Jewish background. They have to fight for this friendship again and again. But in the end they remain prisoners of their time, which breaks Manja and with her the hope for a humane future.
Iris Berben is one of the most famous faces of our country. She has been awarded the Grimme Prize and the Golden Camera, among others, for her acting achievements. She is a guest at the DAI for the second time. Once again she will read the text of a Jewish author, thus underlining her commitment against any suppression of German history.
Musical accompaniment: Klezmer Quartet Heidelberg
