Lysander Burleigh was born in Cologne in 2004. He received his first piano lessons from his father at the age of five. In 2020, he joined Prof. Christopher Oakden’s class at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media as an early student of piano, conducting and music theory. He has been studying piano there since 2022. He received special inspiration in master classes from Prof. Konstanze Eickhorst, Dame Imogen Cooper and Prof. Olivier Gardon, among others.

In 2025 he was a finalist in the International Fausto Zadra Piano Competition in Italy. In addition to prizes in the national competition of “Jugend musiziert”, he received the Steinway Advancement Award in 2020, the Hermann Rauhe Special Prize in 2021, the Beethoven Special Prize at the International Piano Competition “Jugend musiziert” 2020 in Essen and an Advancement Award at the Bach Competition in Köthen 2019.

At the DAI, Lysander Burleigh will play works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Dmitri Shostakovich, Olivier Messiaen and Frédéric Chopin.
