Leonie Wiegel began playing the piano at the age of seven and was coached by Dr. Irina Mints until she began her studies. During this time, she successfully took part in numerous competitions and won special prizes such as the Bechstein Prize as well as taking part in masterclasses with the English pianist Benjamin Grosvenor, among others. Wiegel holds two bachelor’s degrees, both from Frankfurt and from the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo.
Since the winter semester of 2025, Wiegel has been studying in Oslo in the class of the renowned Norwegian Prof. Håvard
Gimse, who complements his artistic training with a special academic component.
She received further musical inspiration in master classes with Prof. Stefan Arnold and the Canadian pianist Jan Lisiecki, among others.
At the DAI, Leonie Wiegel plays works by Edvard Grieg, Maurice Ravel, Johannes Brahms, Olivier Messiaen, Robert Schumann and George Gershwin.
