Karlsruhe, 1848: Inventor Carl von Sauerbronn returns from an expedition to Brazil—with a singing monkey named Julius. Dr. Joscha Schaback studied theater and musicology as well as directing, among other subjects. He writes and translates opera libretti and texts for children’s concerts; he also publishes reviews and essays, short stories, and narratives. *The Monkey from Karlsruhe* is his first novel.
