  • The Quran Today: Global Perspectives
  • Lecture

+++The event must unfortunately be cancelled due to illness+++.

More than ever, the Qur’an is at the center of intra-Muslim debates and public interest. Controversial questions, such as the relationship between Muslims and non-Muslims and the rights of women, are discussed on the basis of the Koran.

The diversity of its interpretations is considerable: denominational and ideological differences, Muslim-influenced national politics, languages, social conventions, and individual beliefs shape today’s splintered understanding of the Qur’an.
Prof. Dr. Johanna Pink introduces the range of Muslim interpretations of the Qur’an using current case studies and shows the reasons for their diversity.

Prof. Dr. Johanna Pink teaches Islamic Studies and History of Islam at the Oriental Seminar of the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg. Her research interests include Muslim translations of the Qur’an and Muslim conceptions of the religious and legal status of non-Muslims.
