National Socialism and the Holocaust: How could this happen? The NSDAP was elected as the strongest party in 1932 during a serious crisis. It promised the Germans advancement and prosperity, but at the same time the people were given no breathing space, no time to reflect. Why did hundreds of thousands of people take part in unprecedented mass murders? In a gripping narrative, Götz Aly describes the methods of rule used by the Nazi rulers to turn millions of Germans into compliant enforcers or into war-dulled participants. – Quite a few of the methods are frighteningly topical.

Prof. Dr. Götz Aly is a historian and journalist and is one of the best-known authors on the history of National Socialism and the Holocaust. His books have been awarded the Heinrich Mann Prize and the Geschwister Scholl Prize, among others.
