Geertje Potash-Suhr

  • Poems by Else Lasker-Schüler and own works
  • Literature

In 2020, Geertje Potash-Suhr received the Else Lasker Schüler Poetry Prize. The jury’s statement quoted the poet Peter Rühmkorf: “What every artist, every artist most fiercely desires, most heartily longs for, a sound of her own, she has found it.” Because of the pandemic, the award ceremony could not take place. The poems that Geertje Potash-Suhr wanted to read at this ceremony – texts by Lasker-Schüler and her own juxtaposed – she will recite at the DAI, humorously commented.

Geertje Potash-Suhr studied German, Romance languages and literature, and psychology, and wrote her doctoral thesis on the image of women in the poetry of Heinrich Heine. Her most recent novels are Von einer, die auszog, das Lieben zu lernen (2011) and Baby im Dritten Reich – Dichtung, Lügen und Wahrheit (2016).
