Today’s fast-moving times consist largely of scientific upheavals and revolutions. Ever new research results make it possible to shake up standardized theories, to think across boundaries and to act accordingly.

Freeman Dyson is a proponent of new ideas. With his idiosyncratic nature, he refuses to be pigeonholed. In his lecture, he deals with the question of how far man has already intervened in the cycle of creation with the help of the natural sciences, especially genetic engineering, and how far he can intervene. What is actually happening in the world’s many laboratories? Will designer babies soon be standard?

The British-American mathematician and physicist Freeman Dyson, a proud 96 years old, was for many years a professor at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton and is the author of several books such as Disturbing the Universe (1979) and Origins of Life (1986).
