These questions will be at the center of an evening with Fred Fleitz, one of the leading security policy thinkers behind the “America First” approach. His lecture and the following discussion will focus on transatlantic relations, Europe’s strategic responsibility, the role of NATO, and the broader implications of an “America First” approach to global security.
Fred Fleitz previously served as a deputy assistant to President Donald Trump and chief of staff of the National Security Council. From his 25 years in senior US national security positions, Fleitz has extensive experience with European affairs, Iran and North Korea’s nuclear programs, security threats from China, and Middle East strategy. He is the author or editor of seven books, including his latest, “An America First Approach to U.S. National Security”.
Moderator: Dr. Florian Böller, Senior Lecturer Political Science at Heidelberg University’s Center for American Studies. His research focuses on US foreign policy, executive-legislative relations, and transatlantic security.
