Emily Haber & Cornelius Adebahr

One year after Donald Trump took office, Emily Haber and Cornelius Adebahr take a critical look at the security and economic policy consequences of “America First” for Germany and Europe. They discuss the new direction of US policy and its impact on democracy, the economy and international relations. The focus is on Trump’s confrontational style of government, the increasing social division in the USA, the limits of democracy and the question of what far-reaching changes his latest policies will bring to the global world order.

Dr. Emily Haberrepresented the Federal Republic of Germany as Ambassador to the USA from 2018 to 2023. The diplomat was the first woman to hold this position. She was State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of the Interior and State Secretary at the Federal Foreign Office.

Dr. Cornelius Adebahr is Co-Executive Director at the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD) and works at the Research Institute of the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP). He has worked for the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, DC and Brussels and has taught at Georgetown University, Washington, DC.
