14-year-old Billie spends most of her time in her high-rise housing estate. At the end of the month, she only has enough money for pasta with ketchup, but her mother Marika lights up Billie’s world with her imagination and big heart. Then her grandmother arrives unannounced from Hungary, turning Billie’s life upside down and shaking up the harmony between mother and daughter.
When Billie can no longer ask her mother any questions, she sets off alone in her old Nissan – with one big goal: to find her unknown father.

Paradise Garden (2023) is a laid-back story about growing up under adverse circumstances and the happiness that the imagination can bring us.

Elena Fischer, born in 1987, studied comparative literature and film studies. With an excerpt from her debut novel Paradise Garden, she won the 2021 Literature Prize of the state capital Mainz for young authors.
