Penal tariffs, the construction of a wall on the border with Mexico, the withdrawal from the Paris Convention and the imminent impeachment procedure: Donald Trump does not cut a good figure, yet 54 percent of Americans expect a second term in office. The reason for this is the good economic situation.

The Super Tuesday of the upcoming presidential elections falls on Tuesday, 3 March 2020 – when the largest number of US states will hold primary elections and assemblies. On this day, potential candidates must perform as well as possible so that they are actually sent into the race by their party as presidential candidates.

Christoph von Marschall, a journalist with a doctorate in history and several awards, has been reporting from Washington as a correspondent for the Berliner Tagesspiegel since 2005. He analyses the Super Tuesday 2020 and reflects the results two days later.
