Doris Dörrie
- The heroine travels
- Literature
About someone who set out to unlearn fear. In personal memories, reflections and stories, Doris Dörrie tells of three journeys: to San Francisco, Japan and Marrakesh. Her central theme is the hero’s journey, an archetypal myth that we also know from countless Hollywood films – but which does not include a leading role for a woman. Exposing oneself to the unknown always means facing one’s own fears, dependencies and losses. And in doing so, becoming the heroine of one’s own story. Dörrie writes honestly and wittily about being on the road as a woman: alone, with friends, with men, always with light luggage.
Doris Dörrie studied theater and acting in the USA, but then preferred directing. Parallel to her film work (including Kirschblüten – Hanami, 2008), she publishes short stories, novels, a book about writing and children’s books. She is head of the Creative Writing Department at the Munich Film Academy.
