  • What now, USA? What now, Germany?
  • Trump's second term and its consequences for America, Germany, Europe and the world
  • Lecture

Conflicts between the USA and Europe are increasing and leading to scandals. President Trump recently kicked Volodymyr Zelensky out of the White House. Vice President J.D. Vance claimed in Munich that the “enemy within”, for example the censorship of populist parties such as the AfD, was a greater threat to the Western alliance than Russia or China. Can the new German government still count on the USA as a partner?

Christoph von Marschall has reported from the USA under four presidents (George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Donald Trump and Joe Biden). He is currently living in Washington again D.C. wwith access to the White House. He is more familiar with the events in the USA and the ‘inner workings’ of the country under President Trump than almost anyone else. In his lecture, he analyzes the changed geopolitical situation and says what priorities the CDU/CSU and SPD should set in the coalition negotiations in order to prevent the threat of a major war involving the Bundeswehr.

Dr. Christoph von Marschall is Diplomatic Correspondent to the Editor-in-Chief at the Tagesspiegel and currently Global Europe Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington D.C. In March, his book “Black Tuesday. Why a war with Russia threatens and how the German government can prevent it” (Edition FotoTAPEA). He has received several awards as a journalist and author (including “Was ist mit den Amis los?” and “Wir verstehen die Welt nicht mehr”).
