Bobby Byrd
- Otherwise my life is ordinary
- Literature
Bobby Byrd grew up in Memphis, during the Golden Age of the local music scene. “Black music, the amazing DJ Dewey Phillips and the radio station WDIA probably saved my life,” he says. He and his wife tramped around the American Southwest until finally settling down in El Paso, Texas, and in Juarez, Mexico.
Byrd does feel part of the Beat Generation. However, his poetry resembles the one of Walt Whitman or Carl Sandburg more than any other – a unique voice amongst present time American poets.
In 1985, Byrd and his wife founded Cinco Puntos Press. They mainly publish literature of the American-Mexican border area thta cover questions and issues especially relevant in the era of Trump.
