Experts estimate that around 40% of the population will suffer from a mental illness requiring treatment at some point in their lives. This makes it all the more important that the methods of psychiatry and psychotherapy are further developed and recognized by society. According to psychiatrist Andreas Meyer-Lindenberg, we can easily do something ourselves: Get out into nature. His research shows that contact with nature has a clear effect on the psyche. Even the visual effect has a positive impact: people who see green spaces already feel better.

In an interview with Joachim Müller-Jung (FAZ), Meyer-Lindenberg explains why this is the case and what this means for urban planning and, above all, for city dwellers.

Prof. Dr. Andreas Meyer-Lindenberg is Director of the Central Institute of Mental Health and Director of the Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy in Mannheim. He is one of the most cited scientists in his field.
