Aleida Assmann and Shir Hever Mon, 6th December 2021, 8:00 pm How can we simultaneously stand up for the rights of Palestinians and Jews against racism and anti-Semitism? In dialogue Many Germans believe that anyone who supports Palestinian rights must be against Israel and vice versa. This has led to a strong polarization in the public media. On this evening, a different perspective will be brought up: Only together do Palestinian and Jewish people have a future in the land between the sea and the Jordan River. The winner of the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade Prof. Dr. Aleida Assmann is a member of the international initiative Jerusalem Declaration on Anti-Semitismin which more than 200 scholars are seeking to define the term more precisely. Dr. Shir Hever, member of the Jewish Voice for Just Peace in the Middle East, economist and author from Israel, has worked intensively on the question of what role Germany and the EU could play in building a common future for both peoples in justice. Prof. Dr. Ulrich Duchrow, who has worked on the role and responsibility of the churches, will moderate the event. The event will take place at the DAI Heidelberg and in parallel via free livestream.
