Particles and the Nature of All Things

DAI - Großer Saal

  • David Kaplan
  • Geist Heidelberg, Vortrag

David E. Kaplan is a professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the Johns Hopkins University. His primary research interests are in theoretical particle physics with particular focus on electroweak superconductivity and potentially related physics such as supersymmetry, new fundamental forces, extra dimensions and dark matter. He is also exploring connections between particle physics and cosmology.

In his talk he will describe what is known about the laws of the nature of matter at the deepest level — quantum field theory — and what it ‘means’ to discover new particles. He will describe the structure of our current theory of nature, explain briefly the Higgs particle and phenomenon, and describe what sort of breakthroughs in particle physics we are pushing towards in the future.
