Collette Doherty From Enniskillen, Northern Ireland I grew up in Ireland before moving to England when I was 18 to study at the University of Manchester. Here I completed my degree in German studies and during this time, I spent a semester living in Vienna as a teacher at the Pädagogische Hochschule and another semester studying at the University of Leipzig. As a student, I took on various interns in primary schools with an end goal of getting into childhood education. After completing my degree in summer 2014, I moved to Hannover where I studied to become a Kindergarten teacher. I spent five years working at a bilingual kindergarten before moving to Heidelberg to start working at the DAI in July 2019. As a teacher it is extremely important to me to provide a safe, comfortable and welcoming classroom where children feel like they can be themselves whilst having the opportunity to learn and have fun. We are all individuals and I feel my role as a teacher is to assist each child in developing their own individual learning style. I strive to maximize learning opportunities and create a stimulating and educational environment where children have the opportunity to grow physically, mentally, socially and emotionally. When I’m not in the classroom I love to travel and I am really excited about exploring my new city, if you have any tips let me know! I love baking and trying out new cuisines. I also love to run and spend a lot of time in the nearby forests and trails.
